Concerns about racism and cultural appropriation: Open Letter to BUSU

The first prize at last year’s Halloween costume contest at Brock was awarded to a group of students dressed in blackface. In its letter to BUSU, CUPE 4207 Equity Committee raises concerns about the followup of this racist incident and inquires about measures BUSU is taking to prevent it from happening again. Alarmingly, 2014 did not mark the first time that Brock students were accepted at the contest dressed in blackface and awarded for it. Here is a response to racism at Halloween in 2007 by at that time Brock student, Ismael Traoré.

Students and workers at Brock University, let’s not allow it to happen again, let’s create positive and save space on campus!
