Dental Fund message from HR and Bargaining

Unit 1 members, check your email inboxes for a message from Human Resources about our dental fund (see pasted below). Members who are eligible to use the fund were contacted.

Who is eligible? You must be a member who taught 240 hours in the past, held a contract in the previous year (September to August) and does not participate in any other dental coverage plan.

What does it mean?

It means that many of our members who are not graduate students (more than a half of our membership) do not fit the criteria for the dental fund eligibility.

Moreover, the fund excludes coverage for dependants of those members who do qualify.

What does it really mean?

That we need a real benefit plan! Unit 1 is the largest employee group on campus and an employee group without a benefit plan. In order to do our jobs properly we need to be healthy, without carrying the burden of paying for necessary medical expenses.

This is an issue that our Unit 1 Bargaining Team addresses in negotiations with the employer.

Support our Bargaining Team! Let them know that you stand behind them.  #BetterBrock.

The U1 BT meets with the employer on September 22 and 23, and October 26 and 28.

From HR:

This email is being sent to advise that as a Brock University CUPE 4207 Unit 1 member, you meet the eligibility requirements to participate in the Brock University – CUPE 4207 Dental Fund Agreement administered by RWAM Insurance Administrators Inc. for the period September 1, 2016 to August 31, 2017.

After August 31, 2017 you will continue to be eligible for coverage for each academic year (September 1 to August 31) providing you continue to meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • 240+ hours of service (based on completed contracts) and had a contract in the previous year,
  • Only members without other group dental coverage will be eligible,
  • Coverage is for member only (no dependant coverage).

Claims can be submitted electronically by your dentist or via paper claim.  RWAM dental claim forms are available on the RWAM website (www.rwam.com).  Claims are paid on a “first come, first served” basis.  If the claims fund is exhausted during the semester, no further claims will be paid for that semester.  Brock encourages you to visit the RWAM website and sign up for the “No Worry” option of direct deposit where payment is made directly into your bank account.

Please refer to One Brock (Services Directory, Human Resources, Benefits, CUPE 4207 Unit 1) for further details on your dental coverage through RWAM Insurance Administrators.

If you don’t yet have a RWAM identification card, please contact me via return email to receive one.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at ext. 4266 or email dnagy@brocku.ca.
