The Ontario University Workers Coordinating Committee (a sectoral committee of CUPE Ontario) holds a meeting on Saturday October 24 at the CUPE-O headquarters in Markham. It is a special and important meeting on the fate of university workers’ pensions. Many of the Ontario faculty associations, and their centrals such as OCUFA, are involved in talks on how to best approach the new proposed regulations to university-based pension plans. The Ontario division of CUPE and other unions representing university workers are involved as well.
Surely, pensions may be the least item of urgency on our minds right now but the fight of workers to have decent pensions (if at all!) has entered a new gear. Our local is sending either the OUWCC campus rep, or one CUPE 4207 member, who belongs to the Brock University Pension Plan.* Contact the union asap if you are interested to go. Transportation cost and per diem will be covered by the union.
See article 26 of our Collective Agreement if you are eligible for Brock Pension Plan.
