Come to tonight’s SPECIAL GMM if you can, to help UNIT 1 bargaining team protect INSTRUCTOR JOBS!
The meeting is on one agenda item only (strike budget) but we also need to send a super strong message to our B.T. that the motion members made at November GMM needs to be honoured. We cannot be split by the employer, unity is of utmost importance- no loss of jobs for instructors!
See letter your fellow Instructor, unit 1 member sent last night:
Hello Brock Instructors,
As you know, back on January 18th and 19th we held a strike vote and
we gained an important and positive strike mandate with a 73% Yes
vote. We hope this will encourage the university admin to negotiate a
fair contract for our members.
Thus far, the employer has not really budged much in response.
However, the university has altered their proposal to give current PhD
students preference for Instructor positions. But, all they have done
is offer to protect (or “grandfather”) those instructors with a
seniority of 2008 or earlier.
In other words, the seniority of all Instructors who began teaching at
Brock after 2008 would still be undermined!
No doubt, our grad student members need funding. But should it come in
the form of teaching positions that will slow down their academic
process while also undermining the seniority of our Instructors like
you and I?
If you would like to help shape the local’s response to this employer
proposal, please attend tomorrow’s meeting. We’re holding a Special
General Membership Meeting tomorrow:
Thursday February 2 at 5pm
in Sankey Chamber (located in the A-block of Mackenzie Chown).
The purpose of this meeting is to discuss and approve a strike
mandate, but a good showing by Instructors could help strengthen the
union’s resolve to protect our seniority!
We are also holding picket captain training this Saturday, February 4.
