On September 27, in a show of solidarity to achieve a fair contract, the ESL instructors voted 90% ‘yes’ on the question to give a strike mandate to Unit 3 Bargaining Committee. The overwhelming ‘yes’ vote doesn’t mean that there will be a strike but it demonstrates the level of Unit 3 members’ support for the bargaining priorities negotiated by their bargaining team. The confident ‘yes’ vote also mandates the bargaining team and the local’s executive Committee to authorize job action if negotiations come to an impasse.
What is next? The Unit 3 bargaining Committee will meet the employer at conciliation, date to be yet determined.
