Our History
Since 1998, CUPE Local 4207 has been the certified bargaining unit for Brock University Teaching Assistants, Marker-Graders, Lab Demonstrators, Course Coordinators, and Sessional Instructors (Unit 1).
In late 2007, English as a Second Language (ESL) Coordinators in ESL Services voted to join CUPE 4207, becoming the union’s second bargaining unit (Unit 2).
Then, to follow a good example, the ESL Instructors at Brock chose to join 4207 and successfully formed a third bargaining unit (Unit 3), in the summer of 2011. They had a rougher time to get the employer to sign their first contract though. It took a 10 day strike (the first in Brock’s history and only strike to date) in 2012 (March 26 – April 4) to shake up Brock administration to agree to a fair deal for Unit 3.
Near the end of 2022, Clinical Nursing Instructors voted to join the Local as Unit 4. On June 5 of 2024, Unit 4 voted to ratify their first ever collective agreement
