About Us

CUPE 4207 is a labour union representing academic contract workers at Brock University.

  • Unit 1: Instructors, Course Coordinators, Teaching Assistants, Marker-Graders, Lab  Demonstrators (1998)
  • Unit 2: Full-time Coordinators in ESL Services (2007)
  • Unit 3: ESL Instructors (2011)
  • Unit 4: Clinical Nursing Instructors (2023)
  • Unit 5: Faculty of Education Instructors (2025)

Since 1998, CUPE Local 4207 has been the certified bargaining unit for Brock University Teaching Assistants, Marker-Graders, Lab Demonstrators, Course Coordinators, and Sessional Instructors (Unit 1).

In late 2007, English as a Second Language (ESL) Coordinators in ESL Services voted to join CUPE 4207, becoming the union’s second bargaining unit (Unit 2).

Then, to follow a good example, the ESL Instructors at Brock chose to join 4207 and successfully formed a third bargaining unit (Unit 3), in the summer of 2011. They had a rougher time getting the employer to sign their first contract, though. It took a 10 day strike (the first in Brock’s history and only strike to date) in 2012 (March 26 – April 4) to shake up the Brock administration to agree to a fair deal for Unit 3.

In early 2023, Clinical Nursing Instructors voted to join the Local as Unit 4.

Unit 5 comprises instructors in the Faculty of Education. The group overwhelmingly voted to unionize with CUPE on February 13, 2025. The group ratified their first collective agreement a year later
