Unit 2 Bargaining Committee
Unit 2’s Collective Agreement expires on June 30, 2025. The Bargaining Committee has been busy preparing for negotiations with the employer.
Phil Wachel

Phil Wachel has been a member of two previous Unit 2 Bargaining Committees ( 2016 – 2019 and 2019 – 2022) in an ex-officio role as president of the Local. Phil has taken bargaining training on numerous occasions. The membership of Unit 2 may be small (two members), but the committee is committed to bargaining for a fair deal for the membership. In Solidarity!
Donna Pearce

Donna is Student Development Coordinator in ESL Services and is the Lead Steward for Units 2 & 3. This will be her 3rd time serving on the U2 Bargaining Committee. Fun fact: At one time, Donna was a member of Units 1, 2 and 3 all at the same time.
Unit 2 Bargaining: Day One
The contract for Unit 2 (Two FT ESL Coordinators) expires on June 30.
Day 1 of Bargaining was April 23. The parties have decided to hold all meetings offsite at the CUPE office on Hannover Drive.
The employer’s team consists of Danielle McCrindle (Lead Negotiator from OPC), Shardai Albano (OPC), Nathan Cheney (Director, PCS) and Julian Inglis (Director, ESL Services). The union’s team is Donna Pearce, Phil Wachel and Jeff Vreeken (Lead Negotiator, CUPE National rep).
The first day of bargaining was a productive one with a number of sign offs including: Definitions, Union Security, Union Representation, Duration, and Correspondence. Three Letters of Understanding have been renewed for an additional term (ex: Class Coverage).
In addition, there was a slight improvement to benefits, as psychotherapists and MSWs have been added as additional practitioners.
Day 2 of Bargaining is scheduled for the day of the May Exec meeting (May 8). The Unit 2 Bargaining Team will provide their Monetary Proposals at that time.
