Some background on 4207 health benefits:
A mandatory health benefit plan has been enacted for Unit 1 members who work 195 hours per term or more. Members who provide proof of comparable coverage can opt out of the plan.
2016 – 2019 period: The university agreed to contribute $100,000 each year of the duration of the Unit 1 contract (2016-2019, three years) towards a health benefit plan. This agreement was inserted as a Letter of Understanding on page 45 in the Unit 1 collective agreement .
2019 – 2022 period: The newly negotiated Collective Agreement also contains Letter of Understanding with the increased funding for each of the years: year 1 – $176, 000; year 2 -$177,760; and year 3 – $179,538.
2022 – 2025 period: Article 18.03 contains the negotiated amounts that the Employer contributes to the Benefits Fund for 2022, 2023 and 2024.
13.03 Benefits Fund
The University will contribute a lump sum amount of $181,333 in May 2023, $183,146 in May 2024, and $184,977 in May 2025 to the Union for the purpose of maintaining a benefits fund that will be administered by the Union.
